The Cricket Mania

The Cricket World cup 2011 is over but still the hype is in the air.  To some extent it is justified for seeking a reason by the people to celebrate and politician to make futile effort to win the sentiments of mass and media. One can understand the soppiness of people with the cricket but sometimes it ignores the honor and sanctity of nation and its heroes.
Is it right to hype the game to this extent? Specially talking about cricket. Most of the participants were from developing countries and most of them are smaller than the many of Indian States. The game is not our national game. Moreover the game has restricted outreach. Seems people love easy going things. India do not even qualify in few qualifying rounds of FIFA. 
Apart from all these the question to ponder is- why there is demand of honouring Tendulkar with Bharat Ratna? The award Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian honour, given for exceptional service towards advancement of Art, Literature and Science, and in recognition of Public Service of the highest order.
This award is for legendaries like that of Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Ustad Bismillah Khan, Lata Mangeskar, Loknayak Jayprakash Narayan, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and other eminent personalities. Games and sports are equally honoured through different awards in its category. Why to mingle the two concepts and mess up the things. Now it seems people want to decide everything for whatever happens. That would be just another boo-boo of democracy.
Even then the sport man of all times Major Dhyan Chand should be awarded the Bharat Ratna before any other sport person gets it. The greatness of this man was not only in his sports spirit rather a true Indian who refused the offer given for Colonel by Adolf Hitler. We say Brazil has Pele, Australia has Don Bradman and India has Major Dhyan Chand. Above all hockey is our national game. But still his entitlement for Bharat Ratna has never been in air.
The idea is not to undermine the spirit of game but to be rational when it comes to game and nation building through contribution in art, science, literature and public services.
I am also a fan of Sachin. I do like his moves and strikes in the field. At the same time I appreciate his candid gestures and gentleness. He himself never claimed for the Bharat Ratna. Let’s celebrate the birthday of Sachin as special day, let’s introduce an award in the field of games and sport by his name, but please think before demanding for the things which really are the emblem of India. Let the fever of cricket down and spirit of being rational Indian up.
